Wayne will host Lexington Friday night in front of a homecoming crowd at 7 p.m. at D.S. Zack Powell Field.

Wayne will have homecoming ceremonies prior to kickoff.

The Lexington Bulldogs will be a formidable foe, according to Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp.

“They have some really good skill kids,” Sharp confirmed. “They do a good job getting the ball to all of their skill kids.”

Lexington will spread the field on offense and Sharp expects them to show multiple formations.

“The quarterback (Cadyn Kreuger) does a good job and they have good tailbacks (Cameron Weatherford and Dalton Brewer),” Sharp said. “Their line is big and physical and they can really move some people.”

Defensively, Sharp expects Lexington to run a seven-man front.

“They let the Mike linebacker control tackle to tackle. He does a really good job of getting to the ball,” Sharp said. “Their defensive ends are tremendous players and it will be a challenge.”

Stratford

Wayne fell to Stratford 33-7 last Friday.

The Bulldogs kept the score close through the first two quarters, down 14-0, and drew to within one score with three seconds remaining in the first half after Jaxon Dill found Sloan Jackson on a 33-yard touchdown pass.

Adolfo Vazquez’s extra point was good and Wayne had momentum heading into the halftime locker room with the score 14-7.

But Stratford struck on a 54-yard touchdown run on the first play after halftime and Wayne would get no closer.

“Stratford was hitting on all cylinders and they had a good game plan and executed it,” Sharp said. “They out-physicalled us.

“It was a good wake-up call and you can put this one on me. We didn’t have them prepared.”

Wayne went back to practice this week determined to fix the mistakes that were costly against Stratford, Sharp said.

“We’ll make adjustments with a positive attitude and practice to be a champion every rep,” Sharp said. “That’s the key – we have to be prepared to be a champion every day. We’ll be fired up for homecoming and will be ready to go.”

Wayne is 1-1 this season.
