The Washington Warriors fast-pitch softball team travels to Silo this weekend for one of the toughest tournaments in the state.

They are slated to play Red Oak at 3:40 today (Thursday) to begin pool play.

“It’s a loaded tournament,” Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “It’s always a good tournament and good for us to get out on the road and in a different environment.”

The Warriors are coming off a pair of nice wins over larger schools.

Edmond Memorial

They defeated Edmond Memorial 7-6 last Tuesday.

Ava Salcedo got the start in the circle and threw four strike outs in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Olivia Palumbo closed out the final 2 2/3 innings and had three Ks.

On offense, Palumbo helped the cause with a home run in the second inning.

Kinzlee Pogue hit a two-run shot in the fifth inning and scored the Warriors’ final runs to take the lead for good.

The Warriors are getting contributions from all corners of the team and Lampkin is enjoying coaching this team.

“I’m so proud of this group,” he said. “ We have had so many different lineups and they’ve adapted to changes. They are doing a good job of being good teammates. And if they’re not in the game, they’re a leader in the dugout for us.”

Carl Albert

Washington beat Carl Albert 6-5 on Monday night.

Palumbo pitched a complete game and fanned eight Titan batters.

“She had a pretty good day,” Lampkin said.

Washington piled up 13 hits in the game, including two doubles by Salcedo, another double by Ava Grimes and triples by Daphne Palumbo and Shelbie Caveness.

“They all swung the bat well,” Lampkin said. “There are just a few situational things we need to clear up like hitting ground balls to advance runners or hitting a ball into the outfield.”

Washington is 16-2 this season and the State playoffs begin in about three weeks.

“I’m really proud of this senior bunch,” Lampkin said. “Some of them have been with me since I got here. This whole group comes out and works their tails off every day. I really appreciate this bunch.”
