Wayne enters their bye with a 1-2 record after they lost to Lexington 32-0 last week.

The Wayne offense started the game with a promising drive, taking the ball to the Lexington one-yard line and chewing up most of the first quarter.

But a goal-line stand by Lexington denied them of the points they needed to cap the drive.

“It ate up most of the first quarter but we couldn’t punch it in,” Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp said. “We had three tries from the one-inch line.”

After turning it over, Lexington turned the tables and went on a 99-yard scoring drive.

“They went 99 and hit us in the mouth,” Sharp said.

Wayne’s defense stiffened up a little after that and they went to the halftime locker room down 12-0.

But Lexington scored on their first drive of the third quarter and Wayne wouldn’t be able to capitalize on any of their offensive possessions.

One of the bright spots for Wayne was the play of freshman Jeremiah Peterson.

The linebacker recorded 13 tackles from his linebacker position.

Others registering tackles were Duke Moore with eight and Eli Stottlemyer with seven. He also forced a fumble.

Logan Simpson had six tackles and a sack.

Ryli Taylor recovered a fumble.

Wayne will resume ball when they travel to Healdton September 27.
