Purcell added three victories last week hiking their season mark to 15-9.

Coach Sarah Jones’ Dragons didn’t allow a run in the three games. The 9-0 victory over Pauls Valley and the 12-0 victory over Sulphur were both district wins that bumped Purcell’s district record to 10-0 and keeps them in first place with four district contests left on the schedule.

The first one is Ada, who was to play at Purcell Tuesday for Senior Night. The remaining three district matchups are on the road at Dickson, Plainview and Byng.

Purcell also picked up a non-district victory over Cache in a real pitcher’s dual 2-0 in 11 innings on September 12.

“We chose not to go to International Tie Breaker (ITB) and played it out more like a playoff type feel and I am glad we did,” Jones said.

“It was great experience, especially for our younger kids. Freshman Maica Martinez stepped up and got a deep fly ball with bases loaded that ended up scoring our two runs,” Jones said.

Senior hurler Ella Resendiz went toe-to-toe with Cache’s Kadyielynne Fisher both going the 11-inning distance. Both struck out 13 batters in the fierce battle.

“It was a great win,” Jones continued. “It was a pitchers’ dual, but also defense made some great plays on both sides. We hit the ball hard but straight to them. Ella had a fantastic game in the circle striking out 13 and only allowing four hits.

“It was her first full game (and a half) back and she felt and seemed the strongest that she has in a long time,” the coach said.

Resendiz threw 145 pitches with 99 of them strikes.

“On offense, we did a great job of finding ways to get on base,” Jones said. Cache is a top 4A team and we potentially could see them later on in the season.”

Jones called the Sulphur victory “a complete game.”

Although they only played three innings, Resendiz did everything but sell popcorn in the stands fanning eight of the nine batters she faced and had six RBIs going 3-3 at the plate with a home run and two singles.

Kenna Esparza had two RBIs and Mack McKay had the other.

“We only had four hits but we had nine walks,” Jones said.  “We were patient at the plate and hit to move runners and score runs. This has been a small goal and we accomplished it that night.”

In the Pauls Valley shutout victory, sophomore Ava Sparks tossed a two hitter while striking out three.

Senior Hadleigh Harp led the offense going 2-4 with an RBI. Resendiz, McKay,  KK Vazquez and  Kendra Anderson all had hits in the contest.

“Ava had a great outing in the circle going the full seven innings,” Jones confirmed. “We did our job at the plate and manufactured runs when we needed to. We saw good pitches, had solid hits and worked towards their mistakes.”

The Dragons head to Dickson today (Thursday) and are scheduled to play in the Dale Festival at Firelake Friday facing Harrah at 11 a.m. and Chandler at 12:30 p.m.
