Dragons 8-0 in league games

Have busy district slate next week

In a game that produced some drama in the sixth inning, Purcell defeated Plainview 6-2 but not before the Indians coach was ejected and fans were unruly.

“It got a little exciting in the bottom of the 6 where it ended with the umpire calling the game after their coach was ejected and due to fan behavior,” Purcell Head Coach Sarah Jones said.

“I am really proud and thankful for our parents and fans and in the way they acted and handled everything happening,” she confirmed.

The district victory gives Purcell an unblemished mark in district play at 8-0 and leaves them in first place.

The Dragons were 12-9 heading into Tuesday’s district matchup with Pauls Valley.

The Dragons are scheduled to travel to Cache today (Thursday). They have three district games next week with Sulphur, Ada and Dickson.

Purcell posted victories over Byng, Chickasha and Seminole last week but came up short against North Rock Creek, Tecumseh and Dale.

Against Plainview KK Vazquez and Kenna Esparza both went 2-4 with Esparza snagging a pair of RBIs.

Kendra Anderson tossed a no-hitter in Purcell’s 11-0 victory over Seminole.

Maica Martinez led the offense going 3-3 with two RBIs. Kamdyn Stokes and Ava Sparks both went 2-3. Sparks had two RBIs.

Purcell lost September 6 at Tecumseh 3-2.

“Tecumseh is a game that could have gone either way,” Jones said. “The Dale and North Rock Creek games are ones we want to forget and not think about again. We didn’t play or hit the way we know how and those are tough to think about.

“We have been struggling with coming out with a hit with runners in scoring position or with two outs. We left way too many people on base last week and made defensive errors that can’t happen.

“We may see Tecumseh or NRC again later in the season and we know what we need to do to beat them when it matters most,” Jones said.

Purcell run-ruled Chickasha 14-0 with Sparks holding the Chicks to three hits. She helped her own cause going 3-3 at the plate with three RBIs and scored three times.

Purcell edged Byng 8-6 with Sparks going the distance in the circle. Purcell out-hit the Pirates 10-9.

Esparza, Mack McKay and Anika Raper all had two hits in the victory.
