Warrior softball on a tear

Starting off season with 6-0 District record

The Washington fast-pitch softball season is starting off on the right foot.

The Warriors are 7-0 and perfect in District play with six wins.

“We’ve had a pretty good start said head coach Tylor Lampkin.

As a team, the warriors have been hot at the plate.

The team has averaged over 11 runs in the last six games.

“We’re hitting it pretty well and we’ve seen some decent pitching,” Lampkin said. “We’re scoring runs for sure. It’s been up and down our lineup everyone is hitting really well. Everyone is at about .400, and with the arms we’ve seen I’m happy with that.”

Junior Julie Hoehner has been red hot at the plate.

“She’s swinging it pretty well,” Lampkin said. “She has three home runs.”

Hoehner and Olivia Palumbo both homered against CCS in their first game.

Palumbo homered twice against Crossings and Bree McHughes served up one as well.

Defense

Palumbo continues to throw the ball well in the circle and the Warriors are getting quality innings from Ava Salcedo and Abby Byrd.

Ally Dennis got the start against Little Axe and struck out three.

Palumbo struck out seven batters against Crossings the first time.

Play in the field has been solid as well and they have only given up four runs in the past six games.

“We’re still trying to find the best mix of defense with offense,” Lampkin said. “We’ve just made a couple youthful mistakes but hopefully it will fix itself.”

The Warriors played Dale on Tuesday.

They will host Norman at 3:15 today (Thursday) during the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament.
