Dragons head coach Aaron Dillard said the most glaring thing he’s seen since the players donned pads is their aggressive play.

“I think we’re going to be pretty physical across the board,” Dillard said.

“We have kids that will fly around and hit you,” he said.

The competition continues for the quarterback position between Deaken Dobbins, Devan Martin and Galiel Solis.

“We had some young guys that stood out in the Red-White scrimmage,” Dillard said.

“Cooper Selman had a strong night. He’s pretty dynamic with the ball in his hands.”

Dillard was also impressed with the play of sophomore Carter Thomas.

“He had a strong game in the defensive line for us,” the coach said.

Thomas was moved from defensive end to nose guard and played well.

Junior Kaden Pliler also caught the eye of Dillard.

Purcell will travel to Community Christian in Norman for a scrimmage that includes Crossings Christian School.

The three-way scrimmage starts at 7 p.m.

Washington

Washington coaches were pleasantly surprised after last Saturday’s annual Red-White scrimmage about certain areas of their football team.

“I think the biggest thing out of the scrimmage was we have way more depth than what we thought especially on the defensive side of the ball,” head coach Brad Beller said.

“Our run offense looked really solid,” Beller continued. “We still have to get a little bit more continuity in our passing game.

“Until we find out who’s going to be the starting quarterback, it’ll take some time.”

The trio vying to be the starting signal caller are juniors Kale Brakefield and Kinser Scott and freshman Creed Barrett.

“It was a good scrimmage,” the coach said. “It was very productive. In some areas we are further along than what we thought.”

Up next for the Warriors is a scrimmage tonight (Thursday) at Tuttle starting at 6:30 p.m.

Lexington

The Bulldogs will host a four-way scrimmage with Wynnewood, Minco and Elmore City Friday starting at 6 p.m.

Lex will go against Minco and Wynnewood since Elmore City is on their regular season schedule.

Coach Keith Bolles said he is “very optimistic” after the first drills with full pads.

“Our linemen are  doing real well,” Bolles said. “We’re looking forward to playing someone other than ourselves, he said talking about the scrimmage on Friday.

“The first day of pads went well,” the coach confirmed.

Cadyn Krueger returns at quarterback for the Bulldogs.

He played some as a freshman and then all last year as a sophomore.

“He’s gotten better each game. He had a good off season.

“We’re looking forward to him being our signal caller,” the coach concluded.

Wayne

The Wayne Bulldogs will host Southwest Covenant at 7 p.m. at D.S. Zack Powell Stadium Friday night for their scrimmage.

Fans are asked to bring soap and towels for admission.

The Wayne coaching staff is pleased with the team’s progress so far.

“The kids are working hard and it’s been hot,” said Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp. “They’re getting after it.”
