Funeral services for Lillie Embry, 97, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lexington Cemetery under the direction of  the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.

At 6:00 on the morning of August 21, 2024 Lillie said “I want to go to heaven to see Harold.” At 11:00 on the night of August 26, 2024 her wish absolutely came true.

Lillie Embry was born on September 7, 1926 in Lexington, Oklahoma. She graduated from Lexington High School in May of 1944. She soon moved to Oklahoma City and worked at Tinker Air Force Base until the end of World War II.

In 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Embry. They raised three sons and spent the next 53 years in Oklahoma City until Vernon passed in 1998.

Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; sons, Harold and Marty Embry; daughter-in-law. Deborah Embry; parents, John and Edith Newville; loving stepmother. Lula Newville; brothers. Claude, Howard and Orval; and sisters, Opal, Frances, Lela and Martha.

She is survived by her son, Gary and his wife, Regina; daughter-in-law, Kathy Embry; grandchildren, Stephen Embry, Travis Embry and his wife, Wendy, Cody Embry, and Kelsi SoRelle and her husband, Brent; great-grandchildren, Kate, Parker and Luke SoRelle; and brother, Michael Newville.

Lillie was regarded as the matriarch of the “Newville” family, primarily based in the Lexington area. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Vicky Shallhorn and Marcella Barnes for their constant love and devotion. Also, special thanks to the angelic caregivers at Integris Hospice House.
