The Wayne Lady Bulldogs will be in Chickasha for the Ninnekah tournament starting Thursday. In their pool are Chattanooga and Riverside.

Wayne and Chattanooga play at 4:15 p.m. then Wayne and Riverside play at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.

The single elimination bracket will start on Friday.

Last week, Wayne picked up their first win, a 16-0 shellacking of Ninnekah.

The Lady Bulldogs scored their 16 runs on just two hits – a single by Cylie Jones and a double by Ava Stottlemyre in the second inning.

Addison Clagg started in the circle. She struck out two and allowed zero runs on one hit.

Stottlemyre came on in relief. She walked one batter.

Central High tournament

Wayne went 0-3 late last week with an 11-0 loss to Chattanooga, an 8-4 loss to Elmore City and a 6-3 loss to Empire.

“We just couldn’t get everything going at once. We need things to come together to have a chance,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

“We need pitching, defense to back up that pitching and to have our bats going. We’ve had one of each in each game, but we can’t seem to get them all going at once.”

Herrin mentioned senior Addison Keeler has been hitting the ball well and Audra Watts cranked a triple in the loss to Empire.

Also, Karsen Adams had a homerun.

Liz Bunner, a senior, has seen time at catcher recently, a completely new position for her.

“Liz is doing a good job at catcher, considering it’s a new position. She’s thrown a girl out!”

Herrin also pointed out the consistency of Cylie Jones’ bat.

On Tuesday, Wayne lost to Alex 11-1.

“We had six pop-up in the infield and you just can’t win with that,” Herrin said.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to be in Union City on Tuesday.
