A Celebration of Life for Katie Shea, 78, of Lexington will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
Mrs. Shea passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2024.
Katie Ellen Koehn was born on August 31, 1945 in Limon, Colorado, the oldest of three girls born to Sam Koehn and Edith May (Garner) Koehn.
She was primarily raised about an hour away in Kit Carson, where she attended school and graduated with the Wildcat Class of 1963. Upon graduating high school, Katie moved to Hereford, Texas.
Katie was a genuine and caring person, and as such, she began her working career in nursing. While in Texas, she caught the eye of a young man named, Harold Everett Shea. The two quickly fell in love and were married on June 20, 1970. The Sheas eventually found their way to Oklahoma. They settled in Purcell, and it became their forever home.
It was here that Katie took great pride in being a housewife. She considered herself blessed to be able to stay home and raise her pride-and-joy sons, Everett and Samuel. Katie attended every event and activity that the kids were involved in; she was their biggest supporter. Becoming a mother truly was one of her greatest accomplishments in life, and she was extraordinarily proud of the fact that both of her son’s served honorably in the United States Military.
Katie was an extremely driven and dedicated woman. She had strong values and a strong work ethic, which led to her to continuing her working career. Katie was employed by the Department of Corrections as a Medical Records Technician for nearly 23 years before she eventually retired on October 1, 2013. She cherished all of her wonderful co-workers and the many fond memories they shared.
In her free time, Katie enjoyed listening to music, gardening, canning, and cheering on the Colorado Buffaloes. She was proud of her home state, and always made the effort to stay in touch with her family. Katie was also a woman of great faith, and she loved attending church.
In later years, one of her favorite title’s became “Grandma.” She cherished all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many invaluable memories they made together. Katie was a one-of-a-kind woman who will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved her!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Shea; parents, Sam and Edith Koehn and little sister, Sandra Koehn.
Katie is survived by her sons, Everett Shea and wife, Catherine, of Purcell and Samuel Shea of Noble; sister, Leola Brownfield of Loveland, Colorado; four grandchildren, Ronald, Olivia, Hannah and Hailey; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Aubrie and a host of other family and friends.
