The Wayne Lady Bulldogs dropped their game with Konawa on Monday, 8-0.

“They have a good pitcher and even though our first three batters squared the ball up well, we just hit it right to their defense,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

Wayne had no hits in the game.

Freshman Maddie Moreno was in the circle. She went three and a third innings and struck out two batters.

Herrin praised Lily Whitaker in left field.

“Lily had a great catch in left for us. It was hit over her head and she tracked it down for the out.”

Late last week, Wayne was in the Ninnekah tournament. They picked up an 8-3 win over Riverside, but lost to Chattanooga (11-3) and Empire (7-4).

“We can’t seem to get all three aspects of the game to line up at the same time. We have to have hitting, fielding and pitching,” Herrin said.

In the Riverside win, Wayne used small ball to stress the defense and push runs across the plate.

“We bunted really well that game and ran the bases well.

“I realized that they weren’t playing the short game and we used that to our advantage with bunts,” Herrin said.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host Central High on Tuesday. They have the Asher tournament starting Thursday. Wayne plays Stratford at 12:40.
