Purcell put its best foot forward to begin the 2024 fast-pitch schedule Monday knocking off Bridge Creek 12-4.

Senior Hannah Whitaker got the rock to start the game in the circle while sophomore Ava Sparks put the finishing touches on the Bobcats.

“They both did a great job on the mound and the defense did what they do best and had their back,” head coach Sarah Jones said.

“The first game was a good one for us to see where we are at, what we need to work on and start figuring out our lineup,” Jones continued. “Everyone accepted their roles in every capacity and it was an overall team win.”

The Dragons pounded out four triples in the contest. Kenna Esparza smacked two of them. KK Vazquez and Brynley Jennings both lined triples.

Jennings led the team in RBI’s with three. Five other Dragons had at least one RBI.

“Our bats were going up and down the lineup,” Jones said.

Purcell out-hit the Bobcats 15-6.

“It was an overall great game and we are ready for the rest of the week,” the coach said.

Tuesday the Dragons were to play Perry at OK Christian. On Thursday Purcell is set to host Pauls Valley.

They will close out the week Friday at the Tuttle Festival playing Southmoore at 2:30 p.m. and Choctaw at 7 p.m.
