Purcell sacked up a pair of district victories at Madill last Tuesday and elected not to play in the Lindsay Festival August 29.

The Dragons wore out Madill 19-3 and 18-4 in the district double header.

“We needed a break,” head coach Sarah Jones said of her now 8-6 Dragons.

“We had some injuries including quads, hamstrings, backs and arms that needed a rest,
she continued.

Hannah Whitaker and Ava Sparks notched the pitching victories while the Dragons bats were on fire.

“Our offense shined with 44 hits in the two games,” Jones said.

Whitaker was 8-8 that included a triple and a home run. Maica Martinez also had a big couple of games going 7-8 with eight RBIs.

“Kamdyn Stokes stepped in to pinch hit and in her fifth varsity at bat hit a home run that nearly went into orbit.

“I’m super proud of this team but right now we needed the break and took advantage of the long weekend,” Jones said.

Kenna Esparza and Hadleigh Harp both went 6-9 at the plate while Kendra Anderson got five hits in nine trips to the plate.

The Dragons were to host Byng on Tuesday and play in the Dale/Tecumseh Tournament this coming weekend.
