Funeral services for Donald Wayne Ross, 83, of Norman will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Wilson-Littlel Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lexington Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
Mr. Ross, 83 of Norman passed away on August 8, 2024.
He was born on January 8, 1941, in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Don was the fifth of six children born to Ira Lee Ross and Margaret Tinnie (Bible) Ross.
He grew up in Lindsay, until his family moved to Wayne where he graduated with the Bulldog class of 1958. After high school, he worked as a farm hand for a few months, worked at an electronics shop and then began working for Boyer Electric. There he learned the trade as an electrician and made it his vocation. He went on to work for Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent, where he retired as a supervisor on December 1, 2001.
One Sunday afternoon while driving around, he met a beautiful young lady named Kathy Elaine Watkins. They went riding around together and never parted from then on. Don and Kathy were married on June 6, 1963. They shared sixty wonderful years of marriage and raised two wonderful children, Jeff and Shawnda.
When Don wasn’t working, he enjoyed raising horses, and spending time outdoors quail hunting. Don and Kathy enjoyed spending time together traveling. One of their favorite trips was to go on cruises together.
Don was a family man. He cherished his children and was always involved in the numerous athletic activities they were in. From gymnastics to baseball, he never missed a game or a chance to cheer them on, supporting them in each and every endeavor. Don always treasured the time he got to spend with his “five grandsons” and he cherished each one and always taught them important life lessons, like sometimes its okay to have Oreos for breakfast. Don was a beloved husband, father, papa, and brother who will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Ross Sr. and Margaret Ross; his loving wife, Kathy Ross and his siblings Ira Ross Jr., Bobbie Jean Stockard, Jimmy Ross and Anna Lou Young.
Don is survived by his children, Jeff Ross and wife, Lisa, of Washington, Okla., and Shawnda Zehr and husband, Jeffrey, of Norman, Okla.; his brother, Gary Ross and wife, Barbara, of Wayne, Okla.; his five grandsons, Caisen Zehr, Colten Ross, Caiden Zehr, Paicer Zehr and Landen Zehr; one great-grandson Ross Zehr and a host of other family and friends.
In lieu of flower, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in Don’s honor.
