Downtown Art Walk debuts

Shop owners sponsor first annual event

Purcell’s first ever Art Walk launches Friday, June 21, and Main Street shop owners encourage the community to come out in force to enjoy the event.

Beyond art, there will be live music, and visitors will find a host of vendors set up along Main Street selling jewelry, vintage clothing and more.

Art Walk will last from 6 to 9 p.m. and is set to reoccur on the third Friday of every month through October, returning in March.

Dustin Green and Dani Howsley are the chief organizers of the Art Walk. Green is the owner of That Shop, an antique store, and Howsley is co-owner of Pride Popcorn, a gourmet popcorn shop, both of which lie on Main Street.

“We do all of this for the community, but we see very few members of the community,” Green said. “The majority of our customers come from Oklahoma City, Dallas, Kansas City, Tulsa and Norman. We don’t see a lot of the locals.”

Throughout mid-to-late 2023, Main Street underwent construction, which severely impacted local shop owners. Traffic to the area rapidly decreased and has yet to return to pre-construction levels.

“Art Walk is not just about us making money,” Green said. “It’s about the fact that we want to be engaged in our community. We all support every community event that we can, and we want to see those people.”

In conjunction with the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce, 15 Main Street shops are sponsoring the event:

  • Above Board Gourmet Food Shoppe
  • Auntie Mae’s Antiques
  • Belle Starr Saloon
  • Butler’s Antiques
  • Flat Armadillo
  • Grapevine Antique Mall
  • Happy Camper Cafe
  • Main Street Vintage
  • Pick Me Pick Me Too
  • Pride Popcorn
  • Red Door Antiques
  • Savvy Parke
  • Sheehy Signs
  • That Shop
  • Tyler’s Furniture
