McClain County Assessor Kendal Sacchieri could be changing call signs.

Sacchieri defeated Jessica Garvin for the State Senate District 43 Republican nomination in Tuesday’s primary election 5,139 (53.3 percent) to 4,511 (46.7 percent) district-wide.

In McClain County, Sacchieri won by a 2,695-2,290 margin.

Absentee balloting was almost dead even with Garvin winning 93-91.

In-person absentee voting went in favor of Sacchieri, 146-122 while she won in McClain County on election day by 405 total votes.

Sacchieri will face Sam Graefe, who ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination, in November’s general election.

In another hotly contested race, Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole easily won the nomination over well-financed challenger Paul Bondar.

In McClain County Cole garnered 62.25 percent of the vote to only 27.52 percent for Bondar, 3,225-1,426.

District-wide Cole won by an even greater percentage, 64.63 percent to 25.80 percent, 40,380-16,120.

Cole will face perennial Democratic challenger Mary Brannon of Washington in the general election in November. She defeated Kody Macaulay for the Democratic nomination.

Rep. Cindy Roe (R-Lindsay) won her seat outright in a three-way primary with 53.53 percent of the vote, beating dump truck owner Tony Bowen and Army veteran and business owner Matthew Huggans.

Mike Whaley and Jonathan Wilk are in a runoff for the nomination for State House District 20.

They will face each other in a GOP runoff election August 27. The winner of the Republican nomination will then advance to the general election to face Democrat Mitchell Jacob, a law student at the University of Oklahoma November 5.

House District 20 spans McClain County and a southern portion of Cleveland County, representing the communities of Newcastle, Goldsby, Washington, Noble, Slaughterville and part of Blanchard.
