Nine new staff at Washington

Washington Superintendent Chris Reynolds has announced nine new teachers in his district including Jeff Heinzig, Jessica O’Hanlon, Callen Rigney, Alexa Arnold, Karri Hoehner, Kaitlyn Blough, Michele Underhill, Justin Lee and Phillip Taylor.

Heinzig and his wife, Holly have four children.

He will teach freshmen and seniors. He attended OBU and ECU and previously taught at Seminole High School.

Heinzig took the position in Washington, “to be closer to home” and to work with Mr. Rigney like they did in Seminole.

Heinzig served in the military and was an Oklahoma City Firefighter for 25 years.

“I love God and look forward to teaching and developing my students,” he said.

O’Hanlon and her husband, Brian, have three children.

She will teach second grade at Washington.

She is a graduate of Konawa High School and earned her degree from ECU.

“I chose to be a teacher because I love helping kids reach their full potential,” she said. “This is my first year to teach and I am very excited to become a Washington Warrior.”

Callen Rigney will teach Middle School STEM.

He is a graduate of Seminole High School and Oklahoma State University.

He previously served as activity fund clerk for Stillwater Public Schools.

He took the position at Washington for, “the opportunity to work at a wonderful school with amazing staff members and students,” he said.

Rigney reports he enjoys fishing, hunting and all college athletics, especially Cowboy Football.

Arnold, who has three children, will teach English IV.

She is a graduate of Washington High School and earned her degree from OU.

“I love this community and I have a passion for English. Teaching high school English has always been my dream job,” she said.

Hoehner and her husband, Harold, have two children.

She will teach fourth grade. She is a graduate of Southeast High School and OU.

She was previously in the Washington RTI Program.

“I chose to go back to the classroom because I missed having my own class,” she said.

Blough and her husband, Shawn, have two children. She will be teaching social studies and special education English.

Blough is a graduate of Pauls Valley High School and Oklahoma State University.

She previously taught Special Education at Lexington High School.

“We live in Washington and love being a part of the community,” she said.

Underhill, who has three children with husband, Jason, will be teaching third grade.

Previously a second grade teacher at Purcell, Underhill graduated from Northwest High School in Justin, TX, earned her undergraduate degree from North Texas and her masters at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

“We moved and live in Washington,” Underhill said. “I wanted to be with my girls. We love this community and am honored to be a Warrior.”

She has 10 years teaching experience and has a masters in educational leadership, her principal certification and secondary and elementary teacher certification.

Lee and his wife, Melissa, have four children.

He will teach middle school and high school choir.

He is a graduate of Tecumseh High School and Oklahoma Baptist University and previously taught in Shawnee High School.

“I am excited to start a choral program here at Washington,” Lee said. He also serves as the worship pastor at Goldsby Church.

Taylor and his wife, Penny, have four children.

Taylor will teach fifth grade social studies and writing.

He is a graduate of Norman High School, OU and the U.S. Army War College.

He has two years of experience in teaching fifth grade science and social studies at Moore.

“I’ve lived in this community since 2009,” Taylor said. “All my kids go to school or have graduated from Washington.

Taylor is retired from Norman Police Department and is a retired Army Colonel.
