Bringing along a variety of experiences, Chelsea Sweet is Purcell’s new city clerk.

She replaces Andie Millsap, who was clerk for 2 1/2 years and has since moved on to become the records clerk for the Purcell Police Department.

She comes to Purcell from Tecumseh where she served as the deputy city clerk.

“I think there’s a lot of room for growth here,” Sweet said. “Everybody seems to be super nice here [at City Hall].”

Sweet is a Christian and lives near Ada, where she was born and raised. She has been married for 13 years and has four children.

Before turning to office work, Sweet went to vocational school and got a commercial driving license. She drove a cement truck for a while before becoming Ada Coca-Cola Bottling Company’s first female driver.

“I like to learn,” Sweet said. “I know a lot of people aren’t that way, but I really, thoroughly enjoy learning. So getting to do new things and experience that opportunity, for me, I enjoy it.”

Before long, Sweet started working in Ada Coca-Cola Bottling Company’s office as their accounts receivable clerk then service department manager. She stayed there for about six years then went on to work for the Chickasaw Nation, auditing their casinos and convenience stores. After about five years, she moved toward municipality work, doing human resources and payroll in Tecumseh.

Sweet enjoys camping with her family and loves to garden. With over 40 acres at home, Sweet and her family have many animals, one of which recently gave birth to a baby donkey. She said she spends a lot of her time tending to the animals.

Sweet is also a big Dallas Cowboys fan.

“Oklahoma doesn’t have a professional football team, and the Cowboys are probably as close to home as any other NFL team. I’ve been a fan since I was little.”

As far as role models are concerned, Sweet said she looks up to her husband.

“He stays true to himself, and I just hope that I can maintain that same kind of dedication to who I am, not ever let anybody sway me in one way or another and just stay focused at the task at hand,” Sweet said. “I think it’s admirable to be able to do that, especially in this day and age when it’s very easy for people to try to push you one direction or another and then just be a good human in the meantime.”
