Bomb scare halts Flyer

Officials investigate after ticking heard

Posted

The Heartland Flyer Amtrak train was stopped at the Purcell Depot Monday morning as officials investigated a potential bomb on the train.
A “loud ticking” was reported in a luggage compartment, causing train operators to stop the train and de-board in Purcell.
Officials said 114 passengers and five crew members were evacuated and bused to the Purcell High School where they were sheltered under the oversight of Purcell Emergency Management Director Rachael Huey.
Purcell Police Chief Bobby Elmore said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s bomb squad had been called to investigate the bomb threat.
As of 10 a.m. Main Street was closed at Canadian Street and the Summer Tree apartments near the depot had been evacuated.
