Funeral services for Amanda Allen, 72, of Austin, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Austin. A private family interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City at a later date.
Mrs. Allen passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Cedar Park, Texas.
Amanda (Shelton) Allen was born October 17, 1951 in Houston, Texas, the oldest of two daughters born to Jean (Felder) and William Shelton. Amanda and her family traveled extensively and she attended school in Huntsville, Texas, at The Hockaday School for Girls in Dallas, Texas and in Caracas, Venezuela. She graduated from Callegio Americano in Caracas, Venezuela in 1969. She attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1973. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
On December 30, 1971, in Wichita, Kan., Amanda married her best friend, Robert (Bob) Stephen Allen. They lived in Oklahoma until 1980 when they relocated to Austin. Together they reared three children – sons Jason and Brian, and daughter Emily.
Amanda spent 34 years teaching in Norman Public Schools and the Round Rock School District. While she spoke fondly of all her teaching experiences, among her favorites were teaching second grade and being a Talented and Gifted teacher. Amanda retired from teaching in 2010.
She cherished time with friends and family, especially visiting grandkids and watching their various activities. Amanda and Bob enjoyed frequent trips to Maui, Hawaii, looking forward to relaxation and time at the beach. She also loved to read, do sudoku puzzles, watch OU football and host her yearly Super Bowl party.
Amanda will be remembered as a kind soul with a smile that lit up the room. She was energetic and loved to laugh and dance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jean Shelton.
Amanda is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home; son, Jason, of Austin, Texas; son, Brian and wife, Tara, of Castle Pines, Colo.; daughter, Emily and husband, John Denny, of Purcell, Okla.; sister, Lisa Shelton Jaubert, of Houston, Texas; grandkids, Hunter Allen, Hannah Allen, Jack Montgomery, Lane Montgomery and Thomas Montgomery; brother-in-law David Allen and wife, Brooke, of Dallas, Texas; and brother-in-law John Allen, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a host of other family and friends.
The family is asking, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be given to the Hope Presbyterian Generation to Generation Fund or the St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation.
